Possible Service Projects for your small group:

Call the Lighthouse Shelter and volunteer to cook one of their meals.  Arrange it by
calling 993-8180.

Call the Salvation Army and arrange to unload their next shipment of food and
supplies.  The delivery arrives every 3rd Friday around noon.  Call to set it up at 993-
5854.  Also consider volunteering for some of their seasonal programs
(thanksgiving and Christmas).

Do a food drive for the Salvation Army.  Call to set it up at 993-5854.

Create welcome baskets for new residents helped by the Southern Illinois Coalition
for the homeless.  These would be people just beginning to get back on their feet,
getting their ‘own place’ for either the first time or in quite a while.  Email Ken for
information on what goes in them, and schedule a drop off with the coalition at 993-
0094.

Call the church office and cook or supplement (with a cool dessert or something) a
Wednesday night meal.

Volunteer to mow a few lawns for those who can not, at the Southern Illinois
Coalition for the Homeless, call to set it up at 993-0094.

Contact Rev Burgard to get the name of one of the many full time missionaries that
the church supports.  You can build for them a care package from our church.  Call
the office to set it up 997-6065. (One missionary per group, first called gets first
pick.  There are at least 8 missionaries available.)

Contact Linda Mathias and see if there are any small jobs that need accomplished
around the church.  Examples would be:
  • Vans:  They could handle a good thorough cleaning inside and out, and an
ambitious group could put a good coat of wax on them to prepare them for the
    winter.
  • Kitchen:  It too could use a good thorough cleaning (not necessarily the floor,
but the countertops and corners and nooks and crannies).  Also it would be
helpful to make sure that everything is where it is supposed to be according to
    the labels.
  • Landscaping:  There’s weeding to be done when the weather’s nice.
  • Classrooms:  They could use a good straightening, and someone needs to
walk through all of them and make sure they all have some basic supplies
    (bibles markers, etc).
